Small Mouth Sounds
Amid the serene beauty of nature, six city-dwellers escape the chaos of urban life to embark on a silent retreat. As these strangers confront inner demons both profound and absurd, their vows of silence collide with the deeply human need to connect. Join this wayward group of misfits as they seek purpose, a little peace—and maybe even themselves… all without uttering a single word.
In Small Mouth Sounds, award-winning playwright Bess Wohl delivers “a play unlike any other” (Huffington Post), where silence is mandatory and comedy is inevitable. Awkward glances, suppressed ugly-crying, and the occasional yoga-induced meltdown become a symphony of human relationships.
Featuring a brilliantly funny cast under the direction of comedy doyenne Bridget Boyle and techno-troublemaker Nathan Sibthorpe, this Bille Brown Theatre premiere gives each audience member headphones to fully experience the sublime in the silence. With immersive audio design by indie collective Counterpilot, you’ll catch every whisper, heavy sigh, and smothered snort-laugh.
